Room Tone into DaVinci Resolve from Ambitura

Push ambience into Resolve Studio, or import an EDL on the free edition. Match the frame rate first.

Paraflex Audio

Resolve can take Ambitura's scene pass two ways. Resolve Studio can take a push into the open project. Every edition, including the free one, can import an EDL. An AAF import is there as well, through File → Import → Timeline.

Ambitura is the desktop app that finds the scenes and matches tone from your folders. Resolve is where the timeline lives. The guide is the export table. This is the Resolve column, written out.

Match the rate before you send anything

The frame rate is detected from the picture. Override it from the rate control above the grid when the timeline uses a different rate, so the timecode matches. A push or an EDL at the wrong rate looks like a plugin bug and is a session setting.

Common pictures open directly: MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, M4V, WEBM, MXF, including the usual camera and finishing codecs. A bad frame should not stop the job. The decode keeps going.

Studio push

Open the project. Choose the Resolve Studio push in Ambitura's Export menu. Markers and clips go into the running project. If the push fails, confirm a project is already up, then push again. Analysis does not need Resolve. Delivery does.

EDL on any edition

Export as EDL, then in Resolve use Timeline → Import → EDL. This is the path when you are on the free edition, or when the colour suite and the sound suite are different machines. The EDL is also the Nuendo cycle-marker path, so one export can serve a picture editor and a sound editor if both are happy with that file. Read the Nuendo note in the guide before you assume one EDL does both jobs unchanged.

What you should see in the grid first

Do the review in Ambitura, not by scrubbing the Resolve timeline hoping the markers explain themselves.

  • Scene cuts, with camera angles, shot-reverse-shots, fades, titles, and credits filtered where the pass can.
  • Labels: interior or exterior, day, night, dawn, dusk, location, shot type.
  • A matched file name, and a source column that says whether the match came from the local pass or a cloud pass.
  • Preview and lock on any scene whose match is close but wrong.

Full Ambiance Design is the cloud pass that classifies, locates, and matches. It spends credits, and the app shows the cost before you confirm. A local pass does not spend credits and does not upload the picture. Solo is $20 a month and includes unlimited local analysis plus 100 cloud credits.

Library folders stay on the computer. Flat, by genre, or by location all work. Re-scan after you add files. The manager shows which kinds of scene have a file and which do not. A Resolve timeline full of unmatched scenes is usually an empty coverage map, not a failed push.
