Benzonizer: Saturate, Inflate, and Compress
The larger engine in Duality. Soft saturation, a lift that widens with Mix, and glue with a gain-reduction readout.
Benzonizer is the engine in Duality that makes a signal bigger: soft saturation, a lift and a wider image, and glue. It adds no latency. If you wanted shards, you are on Ma'afinator. Saturate here is soft. Distort over there is the hard clip.
The Duality guide is the first pass, including the moment you switch engines and Distort leaves the path. This note stays on the three Benzonizer knobs.
Saturate
Saturate blends in soft saturation: warmth, rounder peaks. It starts off. A little on a vocal, a bass, or a drum bus is the ordinary use. It will not turn a clean recording into a broken one. That is Crush and Distort.
Because the plugin is zero latency, you can leave a small Saturate on while you track, and the singer hears the warmth without a delay line.
Inflate
Inflate is a high-shelf lift, a dip in the low midrange around 370 Hz, gentle saturation, and a wider image. It is one knob, not a tilt EQ with a separate width control.
The widening follows the Benzonizer Mix. A fully dry Mix does not widen. If you want width without the full engine, ride Mix and Inflate together. Inflate at a high setting with Mix at zero is a knob that looks busy and a sound that did not get wider.
On a single close voice, keep Inflate small. On a stereo music bed or a pair of overheads, it has somewhere to go. Duality on every track, fully wet, makes a mix that is all Duality. The Mix knobs exist so that does not have to happen.
Compress
Compress is the glue, with a gain-reduction readout so you can see it work. Makeup is part of the design: the level should stay in the same neighbourhood as you squeeze. Watch GR. If the number is zero, you are not compressing yet, no matter how far the knob looks from its start.
This is not a lookahead compressor. The plugin reports no added latency. Do not expect it to catch a transient the way a mastering limiter with a delay does. Mono Optimizer is the tool with the safety limiter for a fold. Benzonizer's compressor is glue on the way there.
One engine, or both
Switch to Ma'afinator and Benzonizer leaves the path. The knobs you set stay with their engine. Dual puts both back in series. A new Dual starts as Benzonizer, then Ma'afinator: made bigger, then broken. Flip the arrow when you want grit first and weight after.
Delta plays only the change. On a gentle Saturate it can sound like almost nothing, which is correct. On a heavy Inflate it is the lift, the dip, and the width. Use it to hear the engine, then leave it off for the mix.
Factory Grit Lift is the other engine. Both Worlds turns Dual on with a taste of Distort and Saturate. Look at the arrow. The preset does not assume you remember the order.
